We were founded to help you to train like an aerialist!
We’re here to share our experience with you!
Empire Aerial Arts was founded in April 2021 by Emma Louise, an aerialist with over a decade of experience in training, performing & tuition, with a dream to share the excitement of aerial arts with everyone who would like to give them a go!
Two beautiful dance and cirque spaces in one little hideaway!
We’re tucked up in the middle of Cuba Street above the Wellington Apothecary, our hidden location helps us to stay Wellington’s best kept cirque secret while sneaking in two gorgeously airy and beautiful learning spaces! With huge mirrors, wooden floors, and soft decor we provide a delightful little space to relax and flow!
Movement for everybody
Our aim is to provide a learning platform for everyone
We will meet you where you are! We pride ourselves on offering a starting point for everyone of every level. If you’re an experienced pole dancer already we have a fantastically challenging class suite for you to continue your growth, and if you’re just embarking on your fitness journey we have classes every day which offer accessible and fun ways to start your movement story. As a queer-owned studio, we’re not here to ‘accept’ you, but rather to welcome you to bring your whole self!
Our Students
most of Our students are brand new to pole & cirque!
Our classes include students of all genders, experience levels, and learning styles. We are thrilled to have a generous and joyful student base who love to celebrate each others’ wins! It’s important to us that our students all feel like they are welcome to take up space and be themselves, and if you’ve got that kind of energy to share too then we want you!
oUr Teaching philosphy
We’re on your learning journey for a good time and a long time
Empire takes an approach of supporting your training in a technically-focused and holistic sense.
It can be so exciting finding new tricks online and wanting to jump into them right away, so rather than push your lovely body before it’s ready we will help you to train the engagement techniques, the required muscle strength, and movement pathways first.
We break everything down as we teach, explaining the musculature, the gravitational forces acting on the body, and the development of neural pathways as a necessity for understanding each move. With this technical approach you’ll not only be able to nail your tricks with gorgeous fluidity, but you’ll be preparing your body for even more tricks!
We also highly encourage dance as a method for developing spatial awareness, endurance in movement, and functional understanding - as well as an incredible tool for expression! It is highly recommended to join our dance and conditioning classes if you’re planning on building a pole or cirque journey.
